Popularly known among the locals as ‘Fiestas en Honor a la Virgen de la Asunción y San Roque’, this festival is of great religious importance in the Costa Blanca. The fiestas are held in honour of the region's patron saints; the Virgen de la Asunción and San Roque. This is one of the longest-lasting festivals in the region; the fiestas last at least five days. Every August a variety of activities are organized in these five days; some are devoted to religion, others to entertainment, music and food.
On the first day of the festival, a mass is held where believers gather to pray in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción. The second mass is held on the second day in honour of San Roque. On the third day, the last mass of the festival is held and is usually dedicated to the departed souls and accompanied by visits to the cemeteries. Other activities that take place during this festival include cultural music performances and sampling of food from local chefs. Entertainment is provided by local entertainment groups. These fiestas are a great way to get to know Polop a little better and to mingle with the locals.
Saint Francis of Assisi is celebrated by Catholics all over the world. This festival, locally referred to as ‘Fiestas de San Fransisco de Asis’, is held dearly by the people of Polop. This three-day celebration takes place every year, in October. In Polop, Fiestas de San Fransisco de Asis is of great religious importance as it highlights the contributions of Saint Francis of Assisi in the building and strengthening of the Catholic religion. This festival is considered one of the most colourful celebrations that is held in Polop.
These fiestas are famous for their impressive fireworks display at the end. The festivities take place until late in the night when fireworks light up the skies of Polop. Cultural activities such as the Còrdas and Coetá - acts of fireworks - are also considered to be highlights of these fiestas. The Fiestas of Saint Francis of Assisi are the perfect setting to sample food from some of the best local chefs. Organizers of the festival bring some of the best chefs in who take part in food preparation contests to celebrate the native recipes of Polop. Mundomar is an exotic marine animal park situated approximately 29 minutes' drive from Polop, 16.3 km away. It's a great place to gain knowledge about dolphins, turtles, parrots, sea lions and the importance of conservation and ecology in general. In Mundomar you can swim with sea lions (and get photographic proof to show your friends)! You can learn surprising facts about the different bird species at the Parrot Show. Or you can witness the remarkable jumps and skills of the dolphins at the Dolphin Show.
Mundomar houses over 30 different animal species, and you can even get the chance to feed some of them. From the highest point in Mundomar, you can view a large part of Aqualandia, which is right next door.

This zoological park represents the planet's biodiversity by recreating habitats from different continents. Terra Natura centers around conservational and educational efforts. By using barriers that aren't visible to the human eye, visitors can make much closer contact with the animals than is possible in most other zoos.
Meet Terra Natura's rhinos, tigers, elephants, monkeys and other species. This park actually consists of two zoos on two locations; Terra Natura Benidorm (1500 animals of over 200 species) and Terra Natura Murcia (300 animals of 50 species, approximately a 21 minutes' drive from Polop). Both parks are easily accessible by car, so it is up to you to decide which one you would like to visit.

This is the place to be if you are looking for a fun, clear water experience, approximately a 22-minute drive from Polop. The sound of the waterfalls will relax you as you take in the amazing views and lush natural surroundings. The water here is always nice and cool, including on the hottest day of summer, which makes this a great destination for hot, sunny days.
A stretch of wooden stairs that is about 1.5km long takes you from one waterfall to the next. These steps do become slippery, so hold on to the wooden handrails for your safety. The parking area, a souvenir shop, toilets, and a cafeteria are located at the foot of the falls.

DinoPark Algar, approximately a 25-minute drive from Polop, has impressive life-size robotic dinosaurs that are aesthetically placed in the gardens. These dinosaurs don't only look real; they sound real too! DinoPark Algar is not just an amusement park; it is aimed at being educational too. You and your children will learn a lot here.
A great way to learn about the mysterious history of our planet, is by visiting the 3D Cinema in the DinoPark. Other entertainment features allow parents to rest while children play. There are many different dino attractions within the park; we recommend you visit them all.

Cactus D'Algar is located next to the DinoPark and about 5-minutes from the Algar Waterfalls. This is a cactus garden with a wide variety of cacti that are magnificently laid out. Many pathways run through the cacti, so you can admire them all. Background music from hidden speakers around the complex makes your walk around the gardens that much more enjoyable.
Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes; you will do plenty of walking as you enjoy the incredible collection of Cacti from various parts of the world. A good majority of the cacti bloom in April and May. If you'd like to appreciate everything the garden it has to offer, you will need a good two hours.

Guadalest is approximately a 20-minute drive from Polop, with an ancient castle located on the top of a rock. The castle is the main attraction, and there are also numerous shops and museums. Guadalest is a small town surrounded by mountains. The best way to get around is by foot; walk through the historic centre as you make your way up to the cemetery and castle.
One of several museums in Guadalest, Museo de Saleros y Pimenteros boasts over 20,000 different salt and pepper shakers in every possible theme and shape you can imagine. The town is small enough to explore on foot. We recommend you leave your car in the parking lot.
